PURPOSE & REQUIREMENTS The purpose of this assignment will be to gain an understanding of your role as a leader in healthcare as a Registered Nurse, leadership styles, and characteristic of a leader. The objectives for this assignment will consist of the following. 1. Introduce leadership and the topic related to leadership styles & characteristics of leaders. a. Introduce the topic of leadership and its importance in healthcare. Includes the purpose of the paper. 2. Describe the following leadership styles: a. Authoritative, democratic & laissez-faire b. Which do you feel is more effective? 3. Describe the following types of leaders: a. Transformational and transactional b. Which do you feel is more effective? 4. Leadership role a. Expound on your role as a leader then select which leadership style and type of leader and their characteristic you will assume in your new role. b. What leadership role might you have as a RN? c. List day-to-day duties you may have in this role. d. Why do you feel leadership is important? 5. Conclusion a. Summarize the main points from the content of your paper. Do not introduce any new information. Criteria for Format and Special Instructions 1. The paper (excluding the title page and references page) should be 2-3 pages. Points will be lost for not meeting the length requirement 2. Font and sizes acceptable: 12 point, Times New Roman or 11 point Ariel. 3. Use of the headings to organize the content of your paper. 4. This assignment must be submitted to Turnitin. 5. The textbooks required for this course may not be used as a reference for this assignment. 6. A minimum of two scholarly references must be used. Scholarly references need to be current, 5 years or less (anonymous authors or web pages are not acceptable). 7. Title page, body of paper, and reference page must follow APA guidelines as found in the sixth edition of the manual; this includes the use of headings for each section or topic of the paper. 8. Ideas and information that come from readings must be cited and referenced correctly. 9. Rules of grammar, spelling, word usage, and punctuation are followed and consistent with formal written work as found in the sixth edition of the APA manual. 10. This paper is worth 100 total points and will be graded on quality of topic, quality of paper information, use of citations, grammar, and sentence structure. 11. Follow this document & rubric.
